Professional REBA Assessments
REBA — Rapid Entire Body Assessment — is an observational method used to evaluate whole-body posture during work. It is particularly useful where tasks are dynamic, positions change frequently or the work involves bending, reaching, lifting, handling or unstable postures.
Ergo Global uses REBA where it provides a useful structured view of the task. We combine the score with professional observation so the output explains not only the level of concern but also what is driving it and what should change.
When REBA Is Useful
manual handling and material movement;
healthcare and patient-handling environments;
warehouse and logistics work;
manufacturing and assembly;
construction and maintenance tasks;
work involving frequent trunk flexion, twisting or changing leg positions;
jobs where the whole body contributes to the task.
What REBA Measures
REBA scores trunk, neck and leg posture together with upper-arm, lower-arm and wrist positions. It also considers load or force, coupling and activity. The combined score indicates the level of musculoskeletal risk and the urgency of action.
The final score is a starting point for action, not the end of the assessment. We examine which parts of the task are creating the score and whether the most effective control is a layout change, mechanical aid, altered work method, equipment modification, training or another intervention.
Our REBA Assessment Process
Define the task and assessment objective.
Observe representative task cycles.
Identify the posture or postures that best represent the exposure.
Score body position, load, coupling and activity factors.
Interpret the result in the context of frequency, duration and real working conditions.
Recommend practical controls and prioritise action.
Reassess after significant task redesign where appropriate.
REBA vs RULA
REBA is a whole-body method and is often better suited to dynamic work. RULA focuses more strongly on the upper limbs, neck and trunk. Choosing the correct tool matters: the aim is to understand the work, not simply to apply a scoring method because it is familiar.
REBA and Manual Handling
REBA can provide useful posture information during lifting or handling tasks, but it is not a complete substitute for a manual-handling assessment. Where lifting mechanics, load position, frequency or travel distance are central, we may combine REBA with a dedicated manual-handling or NIOSH-based analysis.
Part of a Wider Risk Assessment
For complex tasks, the REBA result is integrated into a wider ergonomic risk assessment covering force, repetition, workstation layout, work organisation and other relevant factors.

Arrange a REBA Assessment
If you have a task involving whole-body posture, lifting, handling or frequent movement, tell us how the work is performed and what concern has been identified. We can advise whether REBA is the appropriate assessment method.
