The Duties of
The Employer
- Workplace analysis - The employer shall carry out an analysis of the workplaces in order to assess the safety and health conditions they present for his employees; in particular with regard to the potential risks to the vision, physical problems and mental strain of workers. This analysis also takes into account the problems of particularly sensitive risk groups.
- Address risks - Employers shall take appropriate measures to address the risks identified on the basis of the assessment, taking into account the cumulative effects and the combination of the risks identified.
- Request necessary information - Employers shall request from manufacturers, importers and all suppliers of displays, all information necessary for the assessment.
- Information - Employers shall inform employees and/or their representatives of all matters relating to health and safety at their workplaces.
- Training - The employer shall ensure that each employee with visual display screens is provided with training on how to use it before the start of work and whenever the organization of the workplace is substantially modified.
- Break planning - The employer shall be obliged to plan the worker's activity in such a way that daily work on visual display screens is periodically interrupted by breaks or changes in activity, which will limit the workload on the visual display screen.
- Work organisation - The employer shall consult the workers and/or their representatives on the planning and organisation of work.
- Medical and eye examination - In the context of the supervision of the health of employees, in accordance with the applicable provisions, the employer has the obligation to ensure that each employee is subjected to medical examinations of the vision and musculoskeletal system at the time of recruitment and then once a year as well as when the employees feel discomfort that may be due to their work.
- Special corrective glasses - The employer shall provide workers with special glasses if the results referred to in paragraph 1 make them necessary and if the usual glasses are not suitable or effective for the task in question.
- Additional information and care - For particularly sensitive risk groups, the employer shall provide additional information and care should be taken to better deal with problems caused by working with visual display screens. For pregnant women, there should be additional information and care for the better treatment of problems, psychological mainly during the early stages of pregnancy and ergonomic, especially in the later stages, caused by working with visual display screens.

The Employer

- Equipment responsibilities - During telework the employer takes the cost of the equipment specifically with telecommunications, equipment maintenance and fault repair.

Policy information - The employer must inform teleworkers about the enterprise's policy in relation to health and safety at work, which must include in particular the specifications for the teleworking area, the rules on use of screens, breaks, and the organizational and technical equipment and any other necessary information.
The Duties of
The Employee
- Safe work - Apply health and safety rules and take care as far as possible of their own safety and health and that of other persons affected by their acts or omissions at work.
- Hazardous situations - immediately inform their employer of any hazardous situation that represents a danger to safety and health and of any shortcomings in the protection arrangements.
- Potential series situations - immediately inform their employer, the safety technician and the occupational physician of any situation that could be considered to represent a serious and immediate danger to safety and health and of any shortcomings in the safety arrangements.

Cooperate - cooperate with their employer, the safety technician and the occupational physician to:
a) enable any tasks or requirements imposed by the Labour Inspectorate to protect the safety and health of workers to be carried out;
b) enable the employer to ensure that the working environment and working conditions are safe and pose no risk to safety and health within their field of activity. - Training - to attend seminars or other training programmes on worker health and safety issues.
