To Note
Burundi does not have a single “ergonomics act,” but ergonomics regulation is integrated into its Labor Code Decree-Law No. 1-037 of July 7, 1993.
It contains no ergonomics regulations specific to remote work.

The Duties of

Article 146
Employers are required to comply with the applicable regulations concerning: worker health and safety, the organization and operation of company medical and sanitary services, and the special working conditions of pregnant women and young people.
Ordinances issued by the Minister responsible for Labor, after consultation with the National Labor Council, shall establish the health and safety conditions in the workplace, as well as the conditions under which labor inspectors and controllers must initiate the formal notice procedure. -
Article 149
A health and safety committee will be established in certain companies according to objective criteria defined by an order of the Minister responsible for Labor. In other cases, the role of this committee will be fulfilled by the works council.
The health and safety committee will be responsible for:
- ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations;
- identifying risks threatening the health or safety of workers;
- studying necessary preventive measures; intervening in the event of an accident.
The procedures for electing committee members and their officer will be established by an order of the Minister responsible for Labor. -
Article 150
Every head of an establishment must be informed of the risks associated with technological advancements and organize safety accordingly through preventive measures.
They are required to integrate safety considerations from the initial design of premises, machinery, and products.
They are required to periodically organize practical safety and hygiene training for newly hired staff and those changing jobs. This training includes accident prevention.
