How AI-Assisted Ergonomic Assessment Works

AI-assisted ergonomic assessment uses a structured conversation and software analysis to help an employee describe their work setup and receive relevant next steps.

How the assessment works

AI-assisted ergonomic assessment uses a structured conversation and software analysis to help an employee describe their work setup and receive relevant next steps. ErgoWOW’s published employee journey is chat-based: an employee completes a self-assessment with trained AI and receives an ergonomic health score. The platform can recommend actions and equipment, provide educational resources and refer an employee to a virtual one-to-one ergonomist assessment when needed.

The score is a prompt for understanding the assessment output, not a medical diagnosis or a stand-alone declaration that a workstation is safe. An employer still needs to consider the person’s work, workstation, reported concerns and whether the proposed action was completed.

What the employee does

The employee answers questions in a guided chat rather than receiving an unstructured blank form. The purpose is to gather information about ergonomic health and the working setup in a consistent way. Clear prompts can help an employee describe what they do, what equipment they use and what they would like help with. Employees should be able to explain an answer, request assistance or speak to a person if the questions do not fit their circumstances.

Ergo Global’s current public product description says the assessment is a chat with trained AI. It does not say that ErgoWOW’s standard assessment requires a photograph or video. Do not describe the product as photo-based unless the product owner confirms that a specific live version uses image or video capture and supplies the exact consent, processing and retention details.

What the system returns

The current product page names an ergonomic health score, recommended actions and equipment, educational videos, infographics and quizzes. It also describes management reporting and personalised recommendations from ergonomists. These are concrete outputs an employer can ask to see in a product demonstration. The page does not provide a public sample report or specify the exact score scale, report fields or export format, so those details should be shown from the live product rather than inferred in marketing copy.

A score can help sort information, but it compresses a more complicated situation. The employee’s tasks, working pattern, furniture, room conditions and individual requirements may not be fully represented in one number. Use the score alongside the person’s answers and reviewer guidance. Do not treat a low score as proof that no action is needed or a high score as a diagnosis.

When a case reaches an ergonomist

Ergo Global’s platform page says that an employee may be referred for a virtual one-to-one ergonomist assessment when needed. Before publishing a stronger promise, confirm the live referral trigger, who reviews the case, the expected response time and how the employee is contacted. The case should not depend only on an opaque score: a worker who reports continuing discomfort, needs an adjustment or remains unsure should have a clear route to human support.

At the one-to-one stage, an ergonomist can discuss the employee’s work and concerns, clarify details that a guided chat has not captured and recommend a response suited to that person. The employer remains responsible for considering the recommendation, arranging any agreed changes and checking that action is complete.

If a DSE process uses photographs

If a DSE process uses photographsA photograph can show some visible features of a workstation, but it cannot by itself establish that a DSE assessment is complete. The assessment also needs relevant information about the work and the employee’s circumstances. HSE guidance does not prescribe photos as a requirement. If an employer chooses to request them, it should explain the purpose and provide a suitable non-image route for employees who do not want to share a photograph.

A home workstation image can reveal personal data and details of a private home, and it may capture family members or other people. The employer should identify its lawful basis, explain the processing clearly, limit capture to what is necessary, restrict access and set a retention period. Screen whether a DPIA is required and complete one when the processing is likely to create high risk. Do not promise that images are blurred, deleted immediately, stored in a particular country or inaccessible to a vendor unless that statement has been checked against the current system and contract.

What AI can and cannot tell you

Collecting answers in a consistent conversation A medical diagnosis, treatment plan or fitness-for-work decision
Producing the product’s stated ergonomic health score and recommended next steps That a workstation is safe or that an employer has met every legal duty
Presenting education and routing a case for further support How a person feels across a full workday or every detail of their work
Giving an ergonomist structured information to review Whether recommended equipment was supplied or an action was effective

What to look for in a sample output

Ask to see the employee result and the management view from the same current product version. Check whether the employee can understand the health score, see why a recommendation was made and identify what to do next. Look for a clear route to ask a question or request a human review. For the employer, check that the report makes the status of an assessment and any follow-up visible without implying that a score alone proves a workstation is safe.

Ergo Global’s public product page names the score, recommendations, education and management reporting, but does not publish a sample report or define the score scale and report fields. A live, redacted example is the evidence to use. Confirm that it matches the UK deployment and does not expose another employee’s information.

FAQ

Common questions…

Does AI-assisted ergonomic assessment diagnose posture-related conditions?

No. ErgoWOW’s public product description is an ergonomics self-assessment and support journey. It is not a medical diagnosis or treatment service.

Can a workstation photo prove that a DSE assessment is compliant?

No. A photo may help show layout, but a compliant process must consider the full workstation, the work and relevant individual needs. A photograph alone cannot do that.

What happens after ErgoWOW gives an employee a score?

The platform describes recommended actions and equipment, education resources, management reporting and referral to a virtual one-to-one ergonomist assessment when needed. Confirm the exact current workflow and report outputs in a live demonstration.

Can employees complete an assessment without a photo?

The published ErgoWOW flow is described as a chat-based self-assessment and does not say that photos are required. If a deployment introduces image capture, confirm the optional non-image route and explain it to employees.

Where can I see an example of the output?

Request a sample employee result and management report through Ergo Global’s contact form. The sample should be redacted and match the current product version.
